Installation
Solar systems are not complicated
or difficult to install. Installation can easily be
accomplished by someone with basic plumbing and wiring knowledge.
With a good installation manual and some expert advice from Penn
Solar Supply, the do-it-yourselfer can achieve excellent results and
save on installation costs. Or, Penn Solar can provide
professional installation for you for either all or part of the
system.
Location of Solar Collectors
The most important factor to
consider in determining the location of the solar collectors is
exposure to the sun. Collectors need to receive direct
sunlight between the hours of 9 am and 3 pm.
 |
Solar collectors
are typically mounted on the roof of the building to be
heated. The low profile design of the evacuated tube
collectors look more like a skylight on your roof than like
a solar collector. |
Collectors don't necessarily have to be mounted
on a roof. There are other installation options available
which may work better for a particular location.

They can be located on another
building such as a garage, or they can be ground mounted and
landscaped. They can serve as a fence and provide privacy and
sheltering. |
A Test for the
Do-It-Yourselfer
Study the
following diagram.

If you recognize
a few of the thingamagiggys and realize that some basic plumbing and
electrical knowledge is required to put it all together, you could
easily install the system yourself.
On the other
hand, if this diagram looks more to you like cave hieroglyphics than
a schematic of a typical installation, PLEASE. leave
the installation to us! |
